Why Real Transformation Only Happens When It’s a Must

I’ll be honest, when I started my transformation back in August of 2020, I really wasn’t sure I would be able to not only do it but make it stick. And, why would I?! I had TRIED IT ALL. Over a period of two decades I had tried every fad diet / plan / program you could imagine…only to reach a little bit of progress and ultimately give up and get right back to where I started.
After all those many failures, do you know what got me to start yet again?
I BELIEVED I could.
I saw so many other Midlife Women just like me who were able to lose weight and get fit in their 50’s and beyond so I began to believe I could do it, too. If they could, why couldn’t I??
Every transformation starts with this: BELIEF
I remember a few months into it, I had some success. But there was something different this time.
I not only lost some weight but I felt stronger.
My confidence was starting to come back.
My energy had returned.
And,I started to see the tiniest bit of new muscle on my arm (which was SO exciting!).
These initial successes encouraged me and got me to a place of I WILL
But, you see, “I will” is not enough.
If we are going to get through all the challenges that Midlife throws at us…and there are many…”I will” is not going to get us to the finish line.
And, that finish line has to do with being RELENTLESS and creating a LIFESTYLE.
Identity shifts drive behavior change — When you see yourself as someone who must change, your daily actions start aligning automatically.
And this is where the mindset comes in.
This time, my last transformation ever, was successful and I know it will be a change that lasts for the rest of my life because I have made it a MUST and created a new IDENTITY.
How?
-
I became acutely aware of my internal dialog. “I can’t” became “I must”
-
I looked at my training and nutrition as non negotiables. I became used to doing things when I didn’t feel like it and didn’t want to.
-
I embraced discomfort
-
I allowed myself to be imperfect. Whenever I fell off the path I gave myself grace and got right back on the next day.
-
I listened to podcasts, read books and educated myself on how to build muscle, navigating perimenopause and creating a positive mindset.
-
I surrounded myself with an online community of women on the same path
-
I created new friendships with people that were looking to level up their lives
-
I armed myself with a shield of gratitude and positive self talk.
-
I focused daily on the future I desired and was creating
When “I will” became “I must”, everything changed.
“I must” is where every single person on a path to transformation must get to. When you get to “I must”, you become unstoppable.
I MUST, my Midlife Sisters!
With you every rep of the way! XO
